Visit Beijing
Culturally Rich For thousands of years Beijing has been a town attracting people for trade,
agriculture, and many other activities. Due to the fact that is has been around
such a long time the people there have developed a very unique culture. The
place is completely saturated with interesting people, just sitting on the
sidewalk selling jao zi (dumplings), or down at the corner acupuncturist. They
all have stories to tell about the history of Beijing and China as a whole that
have been passed down for centuries through the generations. People will also
have many things to sell. Many shops are in the area where you can buy
beautifully ornate pieces of jade craftsmenship, or taste many of the foods that
have become common place there that aren't found anywhere else in the world.

Beijing is also a very international city. It is the second largest
city in China, and has a population of around 12 million
people. It is rapidly growing as well. There is almost a
complete merging of the old culture of Beijing, and the new
businesses and building that now dominate some of the
skyline. It is rare in any country to see a person weaving on a
loom designed a thousand years ago, and eating a super-sized
french fry from the McDonalds down the street. It is a very special mix indeed.

A Taste of New and Old
Ancient but Evident Although Beijing is rapidly modernizing the past is atill easily seen. Many of
the very old monuments, landmarks, and other physical history still remains.
Tiananmen square is one such relic. It is the largest public square in the world
at ninty-eight acres. In the middle is a statue to China's heros, as well as
musseums, and a library. There is also just the mere sight of the age old
architecture. The curved roof, that was thought to make bad spirits slide down
and away from the house to maintain peace. There is much found amazing in
this beautiful city.
